You have to hand it to. The game maker knows to leave the indie stuff to indie devs while it sets out to blanket the App Store with high-quality hardcore genre productions. The newest case in point:. This is a hack-and-slash action-adventure game cut from the same tapestry as Diablo, Champions of Norrath, and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.

Dungeon Hunter: Alliance is a hack and slash action role-playing video game developed. 1 Gameplay; 2 Reception; 3 References; 4 External links.
(The first one, mind you.) But don't let the title fool you into thinking this is some dark crawl exclusively through catacombs. Gameloft lets the sun shine in, freeing would-be s to cleave monsters in the woods, temples, caves, and castles.Rare is the iPhone game story that proves interesting, but Dungeon Hunter's yarn about a prince so racked by grief that he explores the dark arts to resurrect his bride is well done. His reanimated betrothed brings some evil back with her and kills the prince. Death doesn't necessarily become him either. He, too, is brought back to life to destroy the wicked queen.
(Yet he escapes the cords of evil that wrap travelers between the realms of life and death?) At the start of Dungeon Hunter, you choose the prince's class from three options: warrior, mage, and rogue. Each class has strengths and weaknesses, such as the rogue's expertise about dispatching lone enemies while the warrior is better at ripping apart entire groups. The warrior's brute strength, though, comes at the cost of not being an expert with magic, which is the opposite circumstance for the mage. But class is not the only way you customize your hero.
Each level offers skill points to assign to four different traits, like strength and dexterity. Plus, you can also adopt and refine skill attacks; some are exclusive to each class so you could feasibly play the game multiple times with different heroes making different skill decisions to have a mildly new experience. Because the narrative doesn't change just to accommodate your choices.Dungeon+Hunter+looks+phenomenal. Customization does not stop with traits and skills either. This is a real-deal hack-and-slasher so expect a boatload of loot drops as you carve up monsters from your grave to the top of Castle Gothica.
There are hundreds of weapons and items to equip and many of those have individual boosts, like trait bumps or magic powers. It doesn't stop here, either. There are five different fairies to collect in Dungeon Hunter that accompany your hero, each with magic spells that help your hero in battle. The sheer amount of stuff you can customize in Dungeon Hunter is astounding and laudable.
There is almost no reason for a Diablo nut to not like Dungeon Hunter. Dungeon Hunter is tripped up by its controls.
The default scheme is a virtual stick and buttons, which is just shy of effective. The stick is acceptable but the secondary action buttons are too small and not always responsive. The tap-to-move controls are workable, but I recommend the stick over them. Another major frustration: no quicksave or rolling auto-save. Look, life happens and it doesn't always wait for me to finish off a dungeon before butting in. I lost an entire dungeon's worth of questing to a phone call. I mean, the dungeons are fun - but the second time through because a developer called to let me know a game was live?
Not as much fun, that's for sure. Dungeon Hunter was reviewed with version 1.2.6. VerdictDungeon Hunter is a good hack-and-slash game for the iPhone. There are tens of thousands of ways to customize your hero through items, skills, and traits.
The dungeon designs are great and there is no shortage of monsters to cut to ribbons. Or bludgeon to a pulp. Or fry with magic. The controls are a touch too slippery and the lack of a smarter save system is a real source of frustration, though. I hope an update addresses both of these concerns, because I’d like to give the game a higher recommendation.
There’s just too much fun stuff here for Gameloft to allow be bogged down with technical issues.
